On 8 – 9 December 2025, a scientific discussion meeting will be held at the Royal Society in London, on the topic of marine biodiversity loss.

The meeting will be led by Professor Richard Sanders from the Norwegian Research Centre, Professor Alex Poulton from Heriot Watt University, Professor Stephanie Henson from the National Oceanography Centre, Dr Emma Cavan from Imperial College London and Professor Alessandro Tagliabue from the University of Liverpool.

The twin crises of biodiversity loss and rapid climate change are often considered as inextricably linked. This is a perspective primarily developed based on terrestrial systems. In the ocean this linkage has been largely overlooked. At this meeting, speakers and attendees will address this gap by considering the relationships between ocean biodiversity loss, climate change and food security.

There will be a poster session on Monday 8 December 2025. Attendees can apply to present a poster.

This meeting is free to attend and is intended for researchers in relevant fields.

Advance registration is essential. In-person and online attendance is available.

More information about the speakers, programme and how to register for this meeting can be found on the Royal Society website.
