We are delighted to report that Dr. Elva Escobar Briones (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México; Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología) has been awarded the 2026 Mentoring Award by The Oceanography Society (TOS).

The prestigious award is made annually "for exceptional leadership in mentoring, tutoring, and teaching biological oceanography, fostering an inclusive and equitable mentoring environment in the lab and at sea, with a positive impact". 

As the announcement makes clear, Dr. Escobar Briones has long been such a leader and it is fantastic to see one of the longest-serving members of the JETZON Steering Committee recognised in this way.
